Are nutrition services covered by insurance?

Checking your insurance policy’s benefits:

It is recommend that you contact your insurance company to see what benefits your plan may have regarding Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), or nutrition counseling coverage.  Your physician might have to write a referral, it will depend on your insurance company. Call the phone number for customer service which is usually located on the back of your insurance card. Ask if MNT or nutrition counseling is a covered benefit based upon your plan. The procedure codes we use for MNT are: 97802 (initial assessment) and 97803 (follow-up assessment). The diagnosis code used will depend on your situation.  At this time I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance with the following Networks:

(Blue Essentials, Blue Essentials Access, Blue Advantage HMO, Blue Choice PPO, Health Select, Medicare Advantage PPO), Cigna, and United Healthcare)

I also accept Cash and all major credit cards. Full fees, and co-pays are due at each appointment.

Please note that you will be billed the full amount if insurance denies your claim or if you fail to cancel

your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
